Water shutdown to affect these parts of Durban from Wednesday

Residents in several areas south of Durban have been warned to prepare for a possible water shutdown this week as essential repairs are carried out on the South Coast Pipeline.

The eThekwini Municipality said the 600mm pipeline will be shut down on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, to allow repairs to be carried out on an identified leak.
Water supply to be affected
The South Coast Pipeline will be isolated by bulk water supplier uMngeni-uThukela Water to allow the repair work to take place.
The municipality said the water shutdown is scheduled to begin on Wednesday morning, with the work expected to be completed by 16:00.
Once the repairs are finished, the water system will begin recovering. However, residents have been warned that supplies will not immediately return to normal.
The municipality expects full recovery to take at least two days after the repairs are completed.

The following areas may be affected by the shutdown:
- Craigieburn
- Umkomaas
- Crowder Farm
- Amahlongwa
- V Section
- Willowglen
- Naidooville
- Singh’s
- Clansthal
- Saiccor Tower
- Quarry
The municipality said it will also try to minimise the impact of the water shutdown by filling reservoirs on Tuesday night (15 September).
This is intended to ensure that water is available during peak demand periods on Wednesday.
However, residents in the affected areas are encouraged to plan. This can be done by storing enough water for essential household needs, particularly given the expected recovery period.
The municipality said the water shutdown is necessary to allow essential repairs to be completed on the leaking pipeline.
Residents should therefore expect the possibility of low pressure or interruptions while the system is being repaired and brought back to normal.
