Weather Report: Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive rain in KZN and EC

SAWS has issued eight separate warnings today, including two Orange level alerts for disruptive rain in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, the most severe warnings South Africa has seen this week.
Gauteng can expect cloudy weather in the south, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.

WHERE THE WARNINGS HIT HARDEST TODAY
Mpumalanga residents can expect cloudy, cool to cold conditions with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.
Limpopo stays cloudy in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south and east.
North West sees partly cloudy weather in the north-east.
Otherwise cloudy, windy and warm, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, widespread in the extreme south-west.
The Free State sees a cloudy, windy and cold to cool day, with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers.
The Northern Cape stays partly cloudy and cool to cold in the extreme west.
Otherwise, it turns cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts. These will be widespread in the extreme east.
A Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms covers the extreme east-central parts.
It is capable of causing injury and loss of life.
A Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms covers the rest of the eastern parts.
Alongside this, a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds covers the southern and western parts.
WHY THE CAPE PROVINCES, KZN AND EC ARE BEARING THE BRUNT
The Western Cape sees partly cloudy and cool conditions, but cloudy and cold in the east.
Morning rain is expected in the extreme eastern parts.
A Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds covers the northern parts of the province.
The western half of the Eastern Cape turns windy in places in the north-west.
Otherwise, it stays cloudy and cold with scattered showers and rain, isolated along the coast and adjacent interior.
The eastern half turns very cold, with snowfall over the north-eastern high ground.
Otherwise, it stays cloudy and cold with scattered showers and rain, widespread in the east.
An Orange Level 5 warning for disruptive rain covers Port St Johns, Ingquza Hill, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and Ntabankulu local municipalities.
It’s capable of causing flooding and disrupting essential services.
Alongside this, a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rain covers the coastal area and adjacent interior between KuGompo City and Port St Johns.
A Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive snow also covers the Matatiele and Elundini local municipalities.
KwaZulu-Natal stays cloudy and cold to cool, but very cold in the south-west.
Widespread showers and thundershowers are expected, scattered in the extreme north-east. An Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive rain covers the coast and adjacent interior up to Richards Bay.
It’s capable of causing flooding, danger to life and displacement.
Alongside this, a Yellow Level 4 warning for disruptive rain covers the eastern and southern parts of the province, and a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms covers the north-western parts.
According to SAWS, very cold and wet conditions are expected in places over the high-lying areas of the Eastern Cape and the south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
This is genuinely the most serious warnings day we’ve seen all week.
Two Orange level alerts, flooding risk, and even snow over the Eastern Cape’s high ground are all in play today.
It’s worth taking these warnings seriously if you’re anywhere near KZN’s coast or the affected Eastern Cape municipalities today.
