Despite being carted off the field during Chicago’s Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the Bears’ starting quarterback “avoided any major injury to his hamstring.”
This much according to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, who adds that the Bears aren’t ruling out Williams playing against the Eagles on Monday Night Football.
For what it’s worth, the betting line for this game currently remains unchanged; the Eagles are still 3.5-point road favorites. We’ll see if that remains the case.
We’ll learn even more about Williams’ status from the Bears’ injury reports this week, the first of which will be revealed on Thursday (and not Wednesday since it’s a Monday game).
The Bears might opt to play it safe and make sure Williams is ready for the long haul. If not, it’ll be backup quarterback Tyson Bagent making his first start since the 2023 season.
Stay tuned for more updates.
UPDATE: Bears head coach Ben Johnson said Caleb Williams is “week-to-week,” which suggests that the quarterbackwill probably NOT play against the Eagles.“Week-to-week” is usually less optimistic than “day-to-day.”
Bears HC Ben Johnson told @ESPN1000 that he expects QB Caleb Williams to be “week to week” with the hamstring injury that he suffered Sunday. Williams underwent an MRI this morning. pic.twitter.com/t8pryZXBKy
