A New York team makes its rankings debut for the first time this season as NY football finally gets into the swing of things, St. John's continues to rise on the back of an impressive national upset and one of the squads involved in last week's strange Virginia tie is on its way up. Let's get into it.
Here are USA TODAY Sports' Week 6 East Region Super 15 rankings.
1. St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, MD)
Record: 4-0
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, vs. King Drew (CA), 7 p.m. ET
Still no trouble in paradise. The Panthers blanked the Hewlett Sports Academy 43-0 this weekend, pushing their undefeated record up to 4-0. They’ve got this weekend off, then will take a trip down to Texas to meet the Legacy School of Sports Sciences Titans in Spring, TX.
2. Hough (Cornelius, NC)
Record: 5-0
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, at West Mecklenburg (NC), 7 p.m. ET
It was also much of the same for Hough this week. The Huskies have yet to run into much of a challenge since their surprising 15-10 season-opening nail-biter over Northwestern (SC), and last weekend’s 45-0 blowout of Green Run (VA) wasn’t anything different.
3. Grimsley (Greensboro, NC)
Record: 4-0
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, at Western Guilford (NC), 7 p.m. ET
The Whirlies dominated a struggling Southwest Guilford (NC) squad 57-6 last weekend, still not having met too tough of a matchup as they improve to 4-0.
4. Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, NJ)
Record: 4-0
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, vs. St. Joseph Regional (NJ), 7 p.m. ET
Don Bosco Prep maintained its untainted record this week with a dominant, 35-9 win over Paramus Catholic (NJ). Its next game is the one that the Ironmen have surely had circled on their calendar all-season: their clash with St. Joseph Regional. A long-standing, blockbuster New Jersey rivalry, it will draw eyes from across the country to Ramsey. Don Bosco looks to be in substantially better form at the moment, but anything can happen in a rivalry game.
5. The St. James Academy (Springfield, VA)
Record: 3-0
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, vs. St. Pius X (MO), 7 p.m. ET
With an incredibly commanding 65-0 win over Mt. Zion Prep Academy (MD), The St. James Academy just continues its roll.
6. St. John’s (DC)
Record: 4-0
Next game: Saturday, Sept. 26, at St. Edward (OH), 1 p.m. ET
St. John’s had quite a week, squeaking out a victory over previously-nationally-ranked team Boca Raton (FL), 15-14. They held the Bobcats scoreless after their 14-point first quarter, slowly catching up until a field goal in the fourth tipped the Cadets over the top and vaulted them up a few spots on this list.
7. Central Catholic (Pittsburgh, PA)
Record: 4-0
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, at Seneca Valley (PA), 7 p.m. ET
The Vikings knocked out Norwin (PA) 54-17 this week, headlined by quite a performance from quarterback Owen Harrick: the junior threw 15-for-21 for a whopping 320 yards and four touchdowns.
8. Providence Day (Charlotte, NC)
Record: 4-1
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, vs. Cannon CO-OP (NC), 7 p.m. ET
It was much closer than it should have been with a struggling Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (GA) team this week, but Providence Day managed to come away with a tight, 17-14 victory to improve to 4-1.
9. Roman Catholic (Philadelphia, PA)
Record: 2-2
Next game: Friday, Oct. 2, at MBAPC CO-OP (PA), 7 p.m. ET
Nothing too crazy for the Cahillites this week. A 28-6 home victory over the Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (PA) evens Roman Catholic out to 2-2 on the season.
10. DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD)
Record: 3-1
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, at Riverdale Baptist (MD), 7 p.m. ET
After a tough loss to Roman Catholic last week, DeMatha got back in the win column with a 27-6 win over Loudoun Sports Academy.
11. Varina (Richmond, VA)
Record: 3-0-1
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, at Henrico (VA), 7 p.m. ET
Coming off their very strange tie with Oscar Smith last week, Varina rises a few spots in the Super 15 this week with a convincing 37-6 victory over Hermitage (2-2).
12. St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, NJ)
Record: 2-2
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, at Don Bosco Prep (NJ), 7 p.m. ET
The Green Knights evened out their record this week with a 42-7 win over DePaul Catholic, with freshman William Mitchell taking the majority of the snaps for 109 passing yards and two touchdowns. Next week’s matchup with rival Don Bosco (NJ) is surely one they’ve been looking forward to all season, and one that will present quite a challenge for the Green Knights. We’ll be keeping a close eye on it.
13. Iona Prep (New Rochelle, NY)
Record: 2-0
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, vs. Monsignor Farrell (NY), 6 p.m. ET
We’ve got a list debut. Now that New York high school football is in full swing after its late-season start, the state’s top team has been making its presence known. A 44-13 win over St. Joseph-by-the-Sea last weekend pushed them up to 3-0 on the season, with junior quarterback Jaydin Jefferson throwing for four touchdowns in the victory.
14. Bergen Catholic (Oradell, NJ)
Record: 2-2
Next game: Saturday, Oct. 3, vs. Don Bosco Prep (NJ), 1 p.m. ET
Bergen Catholic continues to build their season back up after a tough two-loss start, taking down strong New Jersey squad St. Peter’s Prep, 33-16. They’ve got next week off before what’s bound to be a tough matchup with a surging Don Bosco Prep team at home on Oct. 4.
15. Catholic Memorial (West Roxbury, MA)
Record: 2-0
Next game: Friday, Sept. 25, vs. Viera (FL), 6 p.m. ET
It was an overtime thriller for Catholic Memorial this week, sliding out with a 50-48 win over Christian Brothers Academy (NY) that was certainly much closer than the Knights wanted.
Who dropped out
- St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, NJ): previously ranked No. 8
- Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA): previously ranked No. 14
