The opportunity is in its fifth year at Alfred State, according to a community announcement. Students selected for the program represent a variety of academic disciplines, including sport management majors as well as students from the college’s Applied Technology campus in Wellsville and the Northland campus in Buffalo.
“I am incredibly excited and grateful to continue offering this opportunity to Alfred State students,” Assistant Professor of Sport Management Tony Aquilina said. “Working inside a state-of-the-art professional sport facility gives our students invaluable hands-on experience in guest experience, hospitality, facility operations, and customer service. It has been unique for our returning students to experience the transition from the previous stadium to the new Highmark Stadium and see firsthand how technology, amenities, and facility design are changing the fan experience.”
Students working at the stadium will greet fans, usher guests, assist with entry and check-in, and support activation and hospitality areas throughout the facility.
Students gain professional sports experience
The positions provide hands-on experience in customer service, hospitality and facility operations while also making students eligible to work other events hosted at the stadium during the year.
“Working with the Bills has taught me the true scale of operation that students in sport management will one day handle,” sport management student Adel Hasimov said. “Whether you're leading a team of one hundred, or just one, you play an important role with the Buffalo Bills. Learning experiences like this are critical to our success as students.”
Student Josh Carney said the experience is helping him prepare for a career in the sports industry. “Being an Alfred State student in the Buffalo Bills program is huge for me as I want to grow and continue to learn about the sports world as a student.”
The home portion of the Buffalo Bills season began Sept. 17 with a matchup against the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football.
According to the announcement, Alfred State emphasizes applied learning opportunities that connect students with professional experiences. The college offers more than 80 majors, more than 100 clubs and civic groups and 18 NCAA Division III sports programs.
