Bruins have the two leading tacklers in the Big Ten Conference

The UCLA Bruins defense has the top two tacklers in the Big Ten Conference with senior linebackers Sammy Omosigho and Jalen Woods becoming tackling machines heading into Week 4 of the 2026 season.

Despite the Bruins giving up the third-most points in the Big Ten through three games, UCLA's linebackers have been making their presence known against opposing offenses. Omosigho leads the conference with 33-total tackles with Woods right on his tail with 29.
Omosigho earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after a game-shattering performance against the Purdue Boilermakers in Week 3. The defensive captain ended the game with 12-total tackles (11-solo), two sacks, two forced fumbles and of course, the conference win.
The Bruins star defender has started the season off so well that he currently has the fifth most tackles in the country, according to ESPN. To make it even more impressive, the Crandall, Texas native has a forced fumble in each of his firs three games with the Bruins for a total of four forced fumbles. Omosigho also leads the team in sacks with three.
The Big Ten tackler runner-up to Omosigho was Woods, who had 29-total tackles (11-solo), a sack and a late-game interception against the San Diego Aztecs in Week 2. Woods was also named a defensive captain heading into their first conference game before totaling nine total tackles (six solo).
Although the Bruins have the two top tacklers in the conference, the team as a whole had a horrific performance in their last conference matchup against the Boilermakers and they will need to improve this week to become 2-0 in the Big Ten after their game against sophomore quarterback Malik Washington and the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday.
