Texas A&M's "historic" 2022 recruiting class all but vanished, as starting center Mark Nabou and reserve defensive back Bryce Anderson are the only players left on the 2026 roster, and under third-year coach Mike Elko, who helped assemble the class during his time as the Aggies' defensive coordinator, the program is headed in the right direction, for now, at least.

However, after losing to Kentucky by ten points at home, Texas A&M is reeling heading into Saturday's primetime showdown vs. No. 10 LSU in Baton Rouge, needing a win to still have a real shot at making the College Football Playoff for a second straight season.
On Friday, On3's Chris Low released his piece covering Texas A&M's 2022 recruiting cycle, including several quotes from Mark Nabou, who will make his 30th career start against LSU on Saturday. Also reaching out to former coach Jimbo Fisher, who was the main architect of the 2022 class, previous allegations of under-the-table payments led to his memorable shot across the bow after former Alabama coach Nick Saban accused Fisher of "buying every player" in the class.
Jimbo Fisher is reportedly dreaming of a chance to coach Florida State for a second stint while Texas A&M continues to pay off his lucrative $77 million buyout; the veteran coach continues to deny that any players in the cycle were being compensated before NIL deals became legal.
“People took something that was on a message board and ran with it,” Fisher told Chris Low. “We recruited our asses off to bring in that class. There was a lot of potential, lot of expectations and a lot of pressure too. Didn’t work out the way any of us wanted it to, but there were a lot of good kids in that class. Anybody who says we went out and bought those kids doesn’t know what the hell they’re talking about. It didn’t happen that way.”
An anonymous source told On3 that former Texas A&M defensive lineman Walter Nolen, now a starter for the Arizona Cardinals after spending his last two seasons at Ole Miss, was paid anywhere between the "$150,000 to $200,000 range."
