The No. 1 Texas Longhorns walk out of Neyland Stadium with a 20-17 win over the No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers. It was a close contest throughout, but the Longhorns prevailed in the end, largely thanks to the defense, and Arch Manning let everyone know about it.
Manning shrugged off any credit when ESPN’s Holley Rowe reminded him about how big of a game this was for his family. The redshirt senior admitted his performance was lackluster and gave his teammates a shoutout. Especially linebacker Colin Simmons, who had a monster game against Tennessee.
“It was fun. I like that we battled the whole time,” Manning said. “Shoutout to our defense. Colin Simmons, that’s a real player right there… It’s not about me. I didn’t play very well. But our team played great; defense played well. SEC road win, that’s what it’s all about.”

Manning ended the day with 201 passing yards and one interception while completing 73.6% of his pass attempts. However, he only had 19 attempts on the day and failed to record a single passing touchdown. Overall, it was a tough outing for the offense in general, as Texas turned the ball over twice while only gaining 262 yards of total offense.
But the defense showed up on Saturday, and that’s what won the Longhorns the game. Colin Simmons was a man possessed, finishing the matchup with eight total tackles and five sacks. He was in the Tennessee backfield all day, and his performance was a key difference-maker for Texas.
The program will move on to Week 5 still undefeated. However, the schedule does not get any easier, as the Longhorns are set to take on one of their biggest rivals in college football; The Oklahoma Sooners.
