We’ve seen it before with guys like Ryan Young, Maliq Brown, and Sion James, all of whom integrated themselves seamlessly into the team.
It looks like we’re about to get that again, and this time with John Blackwell.
Blackwell comes to Duke from Wisconsin with immense experience and accomplishments. He grew into a leadership role there, and also showed a nice instinct for the clutch.
That could be a problem for a guy who is transferring into an elite program like Duke’s, but based on his comments at Media Day, it sounds like he’ll be as welcome as Young, Brown, and James were before him. Here’s what he said: “It’s been nothing but love connecting with these guys, learning these guys’ backgrounds and competing with these guys every single day…And then off the court, these guys are amazing human beings. I love being around them.”
It sounds like he’s going to be well-liked by his teammates, and that matters. It’s one thing to see someone ahead of you on the depth chart, but if it’s someone you like and respect?
It’s not that bad.
