Saturday’s battle between the Texas Longhorns and the Tennessee Volunteers is playing out again on the recruiting trail as the Longhorns extended a Monday offer to Northeast Mississippi CC defensive tackle Christian Mays, who committed to the Vols back in June.

The 6’5, 340-pounder pledged to Josh Heupel’s program after taking official visits to Tennessee and Arkansas in a relatively early start to the junior college recruitment of Mays, who is from Lakewood, Colo.. It’s a recruitment that clearly isn’t over, as Georgia offered Mays two weeks ago and Colorado joined Texas in offering on Monday. Mays also holds offers from Auburn and Mississippi State, among others.
A consensus three-star prospect, Mays is ranked as the No. 2 player and No. 1 defensive tackle in the JUCO ranks, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
