Dream Fans Look Ahead to Angel Reese-Breanna Stewart Showdown After Mystics Sweep
The Dream made quick work of their first-round series against Washington. Atlanta won Game 1 92-77 before finishing the sweep with a 93-75 victory in Game 2.
The Dream received well-rounded production in both games, with Rhyne Howard scoring 26 points, Allisha Gray adding 22 points, and Reese logging 13 points along with 12 rebounds in the series opener.
Game 2 was another strong team effort. Gray finished with 22 points, while Jordin Canada scored 19 points and handed out 11 assists. Reese posted 15 points and 7 rebounds.
The three-time WNBA All-Star was one of the biggest reasons the Dream reached the playoffs in the first place. Reese averaged 16.4 points and 12.1 rebounds during the regular season and won the 2026 AP Defensive Player of the Year award.
Now comes a much bigger challenge. The Dream will face the Liberty, who just produced the biggest upset in WNBA playoff history.
New York swept the No. 1-seeded Minnesota Lynx 2-0, becoming the first No. 8 seed to eliminate a No. 1 seed in league history. Stewart was a standout performer with 55 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists across two games.
That has not stopped Dream fans from looking ahead with confidence. One fan made the message simple, writing:
“Protect home court.”
Another was already thinking about the next round, writing:
“Let’s GO DREAM! Round 2 here we come!! What a battle!”
The excitement continued as another fan praised the team after the sweep:
“I’m so proud of you guys ehn! Very well done! Let’s win this championship!!! I know we can.”
But there is plenty of respect for what New York brings into the matchup. One Dream fan warned that the Liberty series will be much tougher and stressed the importance of the opening game:
“This NY series is gonna be tough. We can’t waste home court. We gotta take game 1.”
Atlanta won the sides’ 2026 regular-season series 2-1, although the latest of those Dream victories came with Stewart sidelined. They defeated New York 83-65 in their regular-season finale to secure the No. 4 seed.
That makes the semifinal matchup difficult to read. Atlanta has already shown it can beat New York, but the Liberty are coming off a completely different kind of playoff performance after eliminating Minnesota.
The semifinal will be a best-of-five series, giving both teams more room to adjust than the first round. Game 1 is scheduled for Sunday, followed by Game 2 on Oct. 7; both will be played in Atlanta.
Game 3 on Oct. 9 will be played in New York. Games 4 and 5, if necessary, are scheduled for Oct. 11 in New York and Oct. 14 in Atlanta, respectively.
