Reviewing the Bears’ PFN grades from Week 3 vs. Eagles
· Yahoo Sports
The Chicago Bears bounced back in a major way on Monday night, picking up the decisive 27-7 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles to improve to 2-1 for the season.
It was about as thorough a beating as one could imagine. The Bears’ passing attack proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome, while Chicago’s heavy blitz helped them generate pressure on passing downs and keep Jalen Hurts guessing all evening. These efforts are reflected in the analytics, where several key contributors on the Bears finished with favorable production.

Each week, I’ll review how Chicago’s eligible performers graded by Pro Football Network’s Impact Scoring model. Here’s how Week 3 looked.
Offense
- Case Keenum: 79.1 (12th of 32 QBs)
- D’Andre Swift: 75.1 (29th of 44 RBs)
- Kyle Monangai: 70.7 (37th of 44 RBs)
- Kalif Raymond: 80.2 (11th of 67 WRs)
- Luther Burden III: 76.1 (28th of 67 WRs)
- Rome Odunze: 70.0 (53rd of 67 WRs)
- Colston Loveland: 77.0 (11th of 37 TEs)
- Braxton Jones: 76.3 (35th of 71 OTs)
- Joe Thuney: 74.3 (34th of 60 OGs)
- Garrett Bradbury: 83.5 (3rd of 32 Cs)
- Jonah Jackson: 77.3 (21st of 60 OGs)
- Darnell Wright: 85.7 (1st of 71 OTs)
Week 3 marked the second week in a row that Darnell Wright finished with the highest PFN OL Impact grade of any offensive tackle in the NFL. He remains the top-graded lineman in the league, regardless of position. Keenum was quite efficient with his workload, ranking No. 12 in the NFL with 0.18 EPA per dropback. Though he finished the game with a strong 70.6% completion percentage, his completion percentage over expected (CPOE) was just +2.8. That generally suggests Ben Johnson did a good job making life easier with assignments to manage.
Defense
- Montez Sweat: 74.1 (31st of 92 EDGEs)
- Neville Gallimore: 53.9 (94th of 97 DTs)
- Austin Booker: 75.2 (29th of 92 EDGEs)
- Dayo Odeyingbo: 76.8 (21st of 92 EDGEs)
- Devin Bush: 74.0 (40th of 66 LBs)
- T.J. Edwards: 85.3 (7th of 66 LBs)
- Malik Muhammad: 72.4 (62th of 92 CBs)
- Jaylon Johnson: 67.5 (81st of 92 CBs)
- Dillon Thieneman: 96.1 (2nd of 73 SAFs)
- Cam Lewis: 72.1 (51st of 73 SAFs)
After a stellar outing in Week 3, Dillon Thieneman now ranks as the second-best safety in the NFL by PFN SAF Impact grading to start the year. Against Philadelphia, he allowed a targeted passer rating of just 2.8 in coverage, with his key interception of Andy Dalton in the end zone playing a major factor in the Bears’ win. Elsewhere in the secondary, Jaylon Johnson remains an analytical liability. However, both Devin Bush and T.J. Edwards have graded above average in coverage at the linebacker position.
Special teams (for the sickos)
- Cairo Santos: 80.6 (15th of 29 Ks)
- Tory Taylor: 74.0 (23rd of 32 Ps)
There’s not a lot flashy to break down from Chicago’s special teams performance this week. Cairo Santos made both of his field goals and didn’t miss an extra point, but since his field goals only came from 29 yards and 48 yards out, respectively, he didn’t get much love analytically from a difficulty perspective.
