The announcement came after protests by several groups in Delhi and Mumbai earlier in the day. The demonstrators were demanding action against Kumar, and raised concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission and its handling of the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.
“If Delhi Police tries to stop us, wherever they stop us will become our Jantar Mantar,” Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the political campaign, said on social media. “Ours will be a peaceful andolan.”
