Jacobe Smith held serve as the biggest betting favorite at UFC 332, but it wasn't without some adversity and a little drama.

Smith (13-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) fought short-notice newcomer Bruce Whitehead (8-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in a welterweight bout on Saturday at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, and while he emerged with the first-round knockout win, the finish came after a long delay from a brutal low blow.

The fight was halted when Smith landed a vicious knee to the groin of Whitehead, who reacted in a very visceral manner. It seemed like it might be over then, but Whitehead found the courage to continue. When he did, Smith slammed him to the mat, landed some huge strikes and put his opponent unconscious at the 1:32 mark of Round 1.

Following the fight, the undefeated 31-year-old said he's ready to live up to expectations as a future title contender at 170 pounds.

"I appreciate you stepping up, nothing but respect," Smith said in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. "Give me one month, and I'll be ready for anybody in this division. Word to mother. Let's go."
