Tow truck set on fire in Ajax; man nabbed in Rexdale sex assaults

Durham Regional Police are investigating after a tow truck was set on fire in Ajax on Friday.

Cops said the vehicle was found ablaze in North Ajax at about 12:50 a.m.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire, with no injuries reported.
Police said investigators later confirmed the fire was deliberately set.

Man charged in a pair of Etobicoke sex assaults
A man has been arrested in connection with two sexual assaults that happened in the same Etobicoke area less than a month apart.
Toronto Police said the first incident happened on Aug. 19 at about 9 p.m. in the Albion Rd.-Silverstone Dr. area.
Cops said a woman was walking in the area when a suspect approached her from a townhouse complex and sexually assaulted her.
He fled to a nearby townhouse complex, police said.
Then on Sept. 9, cops were called to a sexual assault in the same area, where another woman reported being followed by a man seen leaving a townhouse complex.
The suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her before fleeing into a townhouse complex.
Adnan Koya, 39, has been arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault.
Police said investigators believe there may be more victims, and are releasing a description of the accused.
He’s described as between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 tall, with a medium build, brown eyes, bald, and a stubble beard.
He was seen wearing a blue jacket with the hood up and black track pants.
Cops also said he has a “distinctive shuffle walk.”

Man charged in shooting at Clarington plaza
An Oshawa man is facing several firearms-related charges after an early morning shooting at a plaza in Clarington last week.
Durham Police said officers were called on Oct. 1 at around 2:15 a.m. to plaza in the King St. E. and Townline Rd. S. area following reports of a “large altercation” in which a person allegedly “brandished a firearm and began shooting toward the victim.”
Police at the scene found multiple shell casings, but no injuries were reported.
Cops said several people who were part of the fight fled when confronted by officers, but were located following a search of the area.
Officers arrested a man after a brief foot pursuit.
Ashtoney Thompson, 29, has been charged with possessing a firearm without the required licence, two counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited, possessing a prohibited device, possessing a loaded firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, breach of probation, and failing to comply with a release order.

Man accused of possessing child sex abuse material
A Toronto man is facing several charges after allegedly downloading child sexual abuse material.
Toronto Police said officers executed a search warrant on Monday at a home in the Windermere Ave. and Morningside Ave. area and found a quantity of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
Peter Thompson, 56, was arrested and charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, access to child sexual abuse and exploitation material, and making available child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
