Brad Marchand took the ice for the first time since early March during Sunday’s road game versus the Anaheim Ducks. The Florida Panthers fell in overtime, but it was still a productive return for the 38-year-old left wing. Tuesday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Kings went much differently. Marchand appeared to get his leg jammed while approaching the net and went down in visible pain. He was helped off with a lower-body injury.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion underwent offseason surgery and was feeling great heading into the new campaign. This brutal setback could alter his expectations for his 18th NHL campaign, not to mention the Panthers’ plans.
Florida never had much of a shot last season, as injuries and poor goalie play sunk its three-peat hopes and forced everyone to look ahead. Now, misfortune is plaguing Paul Maurice’s squad again.

The Panthers have already contested three overtime games and were tied with the Kings entering the third period. They should not be playing so much hockey this early in the campaign, especially given their lengthy injury history. Additionally, this team thrives on the intensity that Brad Marchand provides.
Acquired at the trade deadline in a stunning deal with the Boston Bruins, No. 63 was a vital component of Florida’s 2025 title run. One would assume that he would also play a key role in any Panthers resurgence. Maurice and company are hoping for good news, but he was obviously in discomfort.
Florida is pressing on without Marchand and doing its best to avoid a third loss.
