‘Eyes’ review: A clear-eyed look at a culture of stalking and abuse

The title of the Malayalam show Eyes refers to a programme that monitors men who harass, maim or kill the women they claim to love. The Sony LIV series is also about seeing gender violence for what it is, and what it does to people.
The task force “Eyes” is set up after an increase in brazen attacks by stalkers. Reasoning that conventional forms of punishment are ineffective, the focus shifts towards treating offenders, while also tracking them through a software developed by criminal psychologist Vidya (Shruthi Ramachandran).
The idea, at least on paper, is to catch men before they can brutalise women, while also understanding the attackers better. But the gap between textbook lessons and actual behaviour is often vast.
Vidya is joined by the psychologists Ayesha (Nikhila Vimal) and Thanvi (Riya). The Kerala police is represented by Tina (Kani Kusruti) and Justin (Prabhu Muraleekrishnan). The quintet overcomes scepticism about consent and violation of privacy – Tina is especially wary – to tackle an array of tricky cases.
