On a podcast, Jackson praised AT&T Stadium and the idea of playing for Dallas when he was a free agent.
Ex-Eagles Star Says Playing For Cowboys Would Have Been Cool
Jackson was a three-time Pro Bowl receiver with the Eagles, who drafted him 49th overall in 2008. Dallas was never one of his NFL stops, but he called Cowboys owner Jerry Jones “one of the coolest owners of all time.”
Delaware State head coach DeSean Jackson addresses his team after the Hornets 41-34 win against Stony Brook at Alumni Stadium, August 27, 2026.“I was a free agent, and like, I’m not going to sit here and lie to you. I’d be like, ‘Man, like it would have been cool to play for America’s team,’” Jackson told Tabatchnick on the Caps Off podcast. “…you got to think like the stadium; they had that nice a** stadium. Like I would love going to play in that stadium.”
Then-Eagles coach Chip Kelly released Jackson in March 2014 after a report tied him to reputed gang members, and Jackson disputed those claims on AP’s Football Unfiltered podcast. “I just feel like there was a lot of things that was made up,” Jackson said. “There’s a lot of allegations. I’ve never been a felon, never got arrested, never gotten in any trouble. So to kind of knock me for the areas I came from and the people I hung out with, kind of just. I just wish it was just the truth.”
AP noted Jackson was never a suspect in the homicide investigations, the report cited.
Jackson opens up about controversial 2014 Eagles exit
The 2014 release came after a career year. Jackson caught 82 passes for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns in 2013, and he has since criticized Kelly for breaking up the core of that Eagles team.
Jackson has a different view of the decision. “Sometimes things happen like that. You have coaches that may not get along or you have coaches that may not like certain things that a player may do,” Jackson said. “But for me, it was just more like a story been made up about something and just coming clean and just saying, ‘You know what? We just want to move in a different direction.’” Jackson added, “I wish I could have stayed in Philly my whole career, man. I played for Philadelphia, but at the end of the day, I had to go other places.”
Jackson returned to Philadelphia for two more seasons, retired as an Eagle in 2023, and still comments on the team.
