Monday, though, head coach Aaron Glenn dug in a bit deeper.
Asked about the massive first quarter Minkah Fitzpatrick hit that knocked KC Concepcion out for the rest of the game, the former safety quickly came to his player’s defense.
“Listen, I think Minkah initially tired to go with the shoulder and just like always, I mean, sometimes you say the offensive guy might put their head down -- it’s not like he tried to do it or the offensive guy tried to do it,” Glenn explained.
“It’s just some of those things that happen in a bang bang situation and they’re tough to call -- I do know this, Minkah is not a dirty player, he’s never been a dirty player -- I’m glad to see Concepcion get up and walk off the field, but no, I don’t think Minkah is a dirty player.”
Fitzpatrick arrived head on on a deep throw to Concepcion late in the opening quarter, knocking the ball loose and sending the rookie wideout’s head hard down to the MetLife Stadium turf.
Gang Green's star safety, who earned himself a 15-yard facemask penalty also on Concepcion earlier in that drive, was handed another one this time for a hit on a defenseless receiver.
Concepcion eventually made his way to the locker room alongside trainers after being surrounded by teammates, and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion.
Though some felt different, Browns head coach Todd Monken shared Glenn’s feelings on the “bang bang play.”
“Minkah has been in this league for a long time,” he said. “He’s not a dirty player, I've never seen that out of him -- it's a bang bang play, unfortunately it happened to our guy, and that's part of the league."
