Cagliari had made an impressive start to the league season before the match, winning four of their first five games. They approached the contest with confidence and showed their determination from the opening whistle.
Cagliari take the lead
It took just 20 minutes for Daniel Maldini to open the scoring for Cagliari. The forward had been a player Juventus were interested in signing at the end of last season, making his goal particularly frustrating for the Bianconeri.
Juventus needed to respond, but they continued to struggle as the first half progressed. Although they enjoyed plenty of possession, they could not find a way through Cagliari’s well-organised defence.
Luciano Spalletti had work to do during the interval, with Juventus needing a much better performance after the break. His team returned looking for a quick equaliser, but Cagliari remained disciplined and continued to frustrate their opponents.
Juventus rally late to secure a point
Juventus made several changes as they searched for a breakthrough, and their persistence finally paid off in the 81st minute when Randal Kolo Muani scored the equaliser.
The goal gave the Bianconeri renewed hope of completing a comeback, and they pushed forward during the closing stages. However, Kolo Muani missed another clear opportunity, while Nick Woltemade also failed to convert a late chance that could have secured all three points.
Juventus showed significant improvement in the final 20 minutes and looked much more threatening as the match approached its conclusion. Their late pressure nearly produced a winner, but Cagliari held firm under pressure.
Ultimately, Cagliari did enough to earn a point from the encounter. Juventus will take encouragement from their stronger finish, although their slow start and missed opportunities will leave them disappointed not to have claimed victory.
