· Yahoo Sports

Daniel Suarez expects to be back with Spire Motorsports in 2027. His contract runs through the end of this season, and the two sides are still working on a new deal.

Suarez discussed the talks Monday on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s On Track. Host Danielle Trotta, who co-hosts the show with Larry McReynolds, shared his update on X.

Trotta said Suarez told them talks are ongoing and “we are going to be just fine.” She added that the deal is not confirmed yet. Suarez fully expects to be back in the No. 7 next year, she said.

Suarez gave a similar update on Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“We’re still working on it. We’re pretty close, but we’re still working on that.”

Suarez joined Spire for the 2026 season. The team announced the signing on Oct. 22, 2025. Before that, he spent five seasons with Trackhouse Racing in the No. 99 Chevrolet.

Suarez has delivered in his first year with the team. He won the Coca-Cola 600 on May 24, giving Spire its second win of the season and the third in team history.

He later made the Chase on points. His average finish of 15.3 is also a career best. His previous best was 16.2 with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2017.

Suarez started 15th and finished 13th in Sunday’s Bank of America 400. He is 14th in the Chase standings, 215 points behind leader Kyle Larson.

Carson Hocevar is already locked in. Spire signed him to a long-term contract extension in February. He is 10th in the Chase standings, giving Spire two cars in the postseason.

Michael McDowell has not announced a deal for 2027 in the No. 71. He is 20th in points and outside the Chase. McDowell is also expected back, though nothing has been finalized.

The free-agent market also includes Brad Keselowski, who will leave RFK Racing after the season. MotorBiscuit has looked at possible landing spots for Keselowski. Spire co-owner Jeff Dickerson recently defended Hocevar’s approach.

Suarez and Spire head to Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, Oct. 18. Four races remain in the NASCAR Cup Series season as the motorsports calendar nears its finish.
