Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has been taking plenty of shots at Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day this week ahead of the team’s top-five showdown with the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, and Ohio State fans have not been happy about it.

Now, Portnoy has responded to the backlash, calling Buckeyes fans “delusional” and “sensitive” and claiming that the fan base has an unhealthy obsession with him.

‘Ryan Day was born on third base’

As a Michigan alum, Portnoy has never been shy about criticizing Day over the years, but the feud with Ohio State has gotten more personal since he was removed from Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff pregame show earlier this month.

He blamed Day and the Buckeyes for the decision, writing in a post on X that Ohio State “[complained] and moaned to the Big 10 and threatened Fox till they had no choice” and referring to the coach as “Cryin Ryan.”

While making picks for Saturday’s game earlier this week, Portnoy took things a step further, arguing that Indiana’s Curt Cignetti is a much better coach than Day.

“If this game is close coming down in the fourth quarter, Cignetti is about 100x the game coach that Ryan Day is,” Portnoy said while previewing the game between Indiana and Ohio State. “Cignetti is clearly a superstar coach, and it doesn’t matter where he went. Ryan Day would be unsuccessful at any program other than Ohio State. He was given a cupboard full of superstars. He could never build a program. He could never do what Cignetti did.”

Portnoy went on to echo former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh’s famous jab at Day.

“Ryan Day was born on third base,” he said. “Like, anybody here could coach that team to 10, 11 wins.”

‘Fetish city’

Needless to say, Ohio State fans were not too thrilled by Portnoy’s comments, but he wasn’t backing down.

In a social media post on Friday, Portnoy absolutely blasted Ohio State fans, calling them “delusional and insane and sensitive” as he suggested they have a “fetish” for him.

“I love how delusional and insane and sensitive and some would say stupid Ohio Stare fans are. Im one of the longest running college football analysts in the country. Literally. They are mad I talked about Ohio State vs Indiana this week (biggest game of the weekend) and said Indiana has a coaching advantage which they clearly do with Cignetti > Day. They act like I am biased against them when I give good, clean fair takes. I swear Ohio State has a Dave Portnoy fetish. They can’t stay out of mentions and they can’t stop obsessing over me. Fetish city,” Portnoy wrote in a post on X.

Indiana is a 3.5-point home underdog in Saturday’s game, which kicks off at noon ET on Fox. Portnoy’s been pretty vocal about his pick, so it’s safe to say that if the Buckeyes win, Ohio State fans are surely going to let the Barstool Sports founder hear about it.
