Will Stein went berserk toward Oklahoma sideline after failed trick play vs. Kentucky

· Yahoo Sports

I was on the sideline in Norman on Saturday night as Kentucky Football took down the Oklahoma Sooners, and I loved watching the passion Will Stein coaches with.

Oklahoma tried to get cute with a flea flicker. Nobody’s open, John Mateer has nowhere to go, and Kentucky’s defense buries him for the sack. Trick play, dead on arrival.

And Will Stein absolutely lost it on the sideline and began pointing and screaming at the other sideline.

The clip, quote-posted by former ESPN analyst and Georgia Bulldogs standout David Pollack with the caption “Look at Will Stein! How do you not love this dude?,” shows Stein going berserk while the referee signals the sack, pure unfiltered eruption from a head coach watching his defense sniff out a trick play in a hostile stadium.

This is who Stein is.

The flea flicker wasn’t even Oklahoma’s only trickery. In the second quarter, the Sooners faked a field goal, holder Jacob Ulrich tried a jump pass, and Jordan Castell picked it off in the end zone. Castell later took another interception to the house to seal the victory for Kentucky.

Four interceptions on the season for Castell now, most in the SEC. Not bad for a night’s work.

Here’s the bigger picture. Kentucky is 6-1, ranked No. 12 in the top 25 polls, tied for first in the SEC, and that was the program’s first-ever win at Oklahoma. Stein is the first Kentucky coach since World War II to start 6-1. And he’s doing it by being completely, authentically himself on that sideline.

A coach who goes berserk when his guys make a play. Players who go make the next one for him. That’s the whole story of this team right now.

Vanderbilt comes to Kroger Field next. Enjoy this one, Big Blue Nation.
