After it was announced that the New York Yankees are retaining manager Aaron Boone, it appears another important decision is going down in the Bronx. The Yankees are expected to give a contract extension to general manager Brian Cashman, per the New York Post.
Cashman will have a lot of big decisions to make heading into 2027. New York has several players scheduled to become free agents this offseason including Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Some Yankees fans likely won’t be thrilled with the decision. The Yankees have not won the World Series since 2009. New York was once again defeated in the Major League Baseball Playoffs this season, before reaching a World Series.

The Yankees were swept out of the MLB Playoffs this year by the Tampa Bay Rays. New York also failed to win the American League East, as the Rays won the division.
Aaron Boone faces pressure to win for the Yankees
Boone has been successful during his tenure as manager, but has yet to win a World Series.
“In nine seasons with the Yankees, Boone’s clubs have won three AL East division titles and made it to the playoffs eight times, only missing out during the 2023 season. The Yankees have advanced to the ALCS three times during that span, including a World Series appearance in 2024 in a loss to the Dodgers,” MLB.com reported.
Time may be running out though for Boone.
“Boone is entering the final year of his contract with the Yankees in ‘27, which will mark his 10th season at the helm for New York,” MLB.com added.
New York won 93 games during the regular season in 2026. The Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox in a Wild Card series, before losing to Tampa in the ALDS.
The Bronx Bombers last made the World Series during the 2024 season. New York lost that year to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
