Big match! Champions LASK the next test

Clash of European representatives

Just three days after our late setback in Celje, our side have the chance to put in a powerful response against LASK in the headline fixture of Matchday 10 of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. This clash between the two title contenders kicks off tomorrow, Sunday, at 17:00, with Alexander Harkam officiating.

The final minutes in Slovenia did not go as we had hoped - yet our boys remain unbeaten in domestic football. The next side looking to challenge that record have endured some tough weeks. A week ago, they ended a five-match winless streak with a comfortable 4-0 victory in Lustenau, followed by a major coup: on Wednesday, they secured a 3–2 triumph over Sporting in Lisbon, marking the first-ever UEFA Champions League win in the club's history.

The reigning double-winners are doing well in the league. They have already netted 23 goals - a feat only previously achieved in the 2009/10 season - and their goal difference of +14 at this stage of the campaign is a new club record. Tomorrow, our side also has a score to settle: our 1–2 defeat in our last visit to the Raiffeisen Arena effectively put an end to our championship dreams for the 2025/26 season. It certainly doesn’t hurt that LASK’s successful head coach, Didi Kühbauer, has a lower points-per-game average against us than against any other club in his career: 0.86 points (for teams he has faced at least four times).

We are fully aware of the difficulty of the task ahead. LASK earned a well-deserved win in the Champions League, which will surely have boosted their confidence. That only makes us look forward to this big Bundesliga clash even more. Two of the best teams in Austria are set to face each other. That is precisely what makes such encounters so compelling. Whether - and to what extent - we will rotate our squad on Sunday will become clear over the next two days, during which we must focus on recovering as effectively as possible. Some decisions will likely not be made until the day of the match.

Matches against LASK are always intense and demand full concentration from start to finish. They are not only the reigning champions, but they also qualified for the Champions League - where, as recently seen in Lisbon, they are performing very well. Nevertheless, as a team, we intend to play with courage, stick to our style of play, and bring the energy to the pitch required to secure all three points.
