The Commodores (3-5, 0-5 SEC) lost more due to their defense than the play of five-star freshman quarterback Jared Curtis, who operated the offense well and kept the game close until the fourth quarter.

But Curtis did commit two turnovers, adding to his list of freshman mistakes this season.

Here's how we graded his performance:

Jared Curtis stats vs Kentucky

Curtis went 27-for-36 passing for 247 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He ran five times for 24 yards, not including sacks, and was sacked three times for 16 yards. One of those sacks resulted in a lost fumble.

Jared Curtis performance vs Kentucky

Curtis performed well for the first three quarters. He threw more passes over the middle and was accurate on short and intermediate balls, not just the sideline deep shots he has become known for.

Things fell apart for Curtis late in the third and into the fourth quarter. He had the strip sack and threw a bad interception. Like many of his others, this pick came when he was under pressure and trying to escape a sack, but a sack would've been a preferable outcome here.

The two turnovers did happen once Vanderbilt got behind, and it may have been partially due to Curtis feeling like he needed to make plays, but that is a freshman mentality.
