The Indiana Pacers have plenty of reason for optimism this season as star point guard Tyrese Haliburton has made his return after being sidelined for all of last season due to injury. The Pacers are 2-1 to start the season, with a recent win against the Brooklyn Nets, and Haliburton stole the show with a lob to himself via bounce pass while on a break.

It just so happened that the Pacers were playing in retro ABA jerseys, and for Tyrese Haliburton, those jerseys were the reason why he decided to attempt the lob dunk off his own pass.

“Sometimes you just got to commit to the bit, you know what I’m saying. I didn’t really think I was gonna do it,” Haliburton quipped. “You can’t think about it cause otherwise you’ll mess it up. So I just committed fully. I think it was the ABA jerseys, I felt like Dr. J or something.”

In true hilarious Haliburton fashion, he jokingly walked back his comments and told the reporter not to quote him on saying he felt like the great Julius Irving.

Including that lob dunk, Haliburton finished the game with a game-high 24 points in 31 minutes. He also added four rebounds, 10 assists, and two steals. He shot 8-of-13 from the field, 4-of-7 from the 3-point line and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Through the Pacers’ first two games of the season, Haliburton is averaging 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 9.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocked shots with splits of 50 percent shooting from the field, 20 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 100 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
