Everything is looking up for the Memphis Grizzlies to begin the 2026-27 season. They just scored their fourth win of the season in four contests, with their latest win coming on Monday night against the Utah Jazz, which they defeated on the road, 110-105. For a team that not too many expected to be very good heading into the new campaign, this kind of start is nothing short of remarkable.

This Grizzlies team traded Jaren Jackson Jr. back in February and Ja Morant back in June, and yet here they are, looking like they’re better off by having done so. According to ClutchPoints’ Tomer Azarly, this is the first time the Grizzlies have started off the season with four consecutive wins since 2014.
During the 2014-15 season was when the Grizzlies won six straight games to start the year en route to winning 55 games. Alas, they somehow fell to the fifth seed due to the rules at the time and ran into the eventual champion Golden State Warriors in the second round of the playoffs.

It is too early to tell if the 2026-27 iteration of the Grizzlies will be good enough to compete for a playoff spot. The first four teams they’ve faced this season haven’t been very convincing to start the season anyway.
The Grizzlies’ four wins this year have come against the Jazz (twice), Warriors, and Kings; this is not to take anything away from what they’ve done thus far, but more difficult tests await this team’s burgeoning young core.
The promising sign was that Memphis did not need to get big games from some of their core players to earn their latest win. Ty Jerome, the hottest player in the NBA through their first three games, cooled off on Monday — scoring just 15 on 4-of-15 shooting. No one on the team scored more than the 16 Cedric Coward had.
But this Grizzlies team has so much depth and so much room to grow that this may not be a complete fluke. They’ll look to keep it going on Thursday when they face Morant and the Portland Trail Blazers at 10:00 PM E.T.
