A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to kidnap a girl last Monday afternoon, with the disturbing encounter caught on surveillance video.
In footage from a security camera outside a Shell gas station in the Miami area, a man wearing an orange helmet approaches a teen walking towards the gas station.
He puts his arm around the girl, leading her away.
As he tries to restrain her, she breaks free and runs inside the gas station.
A witness who called 911 told NBC6 that the suspect grabbed the girl by the neck and described her as on the verge of tears.
Suspect reportedly left on a scooter
In 911 audio obtained by the news outlet, the witness told a dispatcher that the man fled the area on a scooter.
The caller also noted that the girl appeared to be uninjured and provided the dispatcher with a description of the suspect.
In a Facebook post , Miramar Police said officers were able to locate the man nearby after receiving reports of another disturbance.
Police said the 13-year-old victim and a witness were able to positively identify the suspect.
Michael Polanco, 32, was taken into custody and held at Broward County Main Jail, cops said.
He faces charges of battery, causing bodily harm and kidnapping/inflicting bodily harm upon or terrorizing the victim, NBC6 reported.
Police said the accused has a history of violent offences, including robbery sudden snatching, burglary with assault, felony battery and criminal mischief.
Polanco was denied bond by a judge last Tuesday, NBC6 reported.
