The Kansas City Chiefs raised plenty of eyebrows this week when they signed kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad, giving the former Baltimore Ravens star his first NFL opportunity since he was suspended over allegations of sexual misconduct. And on Wednesday, head coach Andy Reid did little to ease those concerns.

Reid faced several minutes of questions about the signing, including what message it sends to the team’s female fans. His answers left plenty of people unimpressed, with many calling out the head coach for brushing off the questions.

Chiefs Sign Justin Tucker

Tucker was released by the Ravens in May 2025 after 16 massage therapists accused him of sexual misconduct, according to CBS Sports. He was later suspended 10 weeks by the NFL for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy.

On Wednesday, the Chiefs added Tucker to their practice squad as insurance for Harrison Butker, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Tucker went 30-for-30 during a workout with the team on Tuesday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

On Wednesday, Reid was asked about the decision to sign Tucker.

“He’s done his suspension. … I’ll leave it at that. … We try to do our homework the best way we can. Make sure things are OK,” Reid said, via ESPN’s Nate Taylor.

According to Ari Meirov, Reid faced “five straight minutes of questions about Justin Tucker,” including what message the signing sends to female fans.

Reactions

Needless to say, plenty of people around the NFL weren’t satisfied with those answers.

“I understand there’s no great answer to that question, but ‘He’s done his suspension, took care of that business there. I’ll leave it at that’ is a TERRIBLE answer,” wrote Sam Monson, formerly of PFF.

“Define ‘okay’ for me, Andy,” wrote Brett Kollmann of NFL Pro.

“A lot of people just won’t care about this. But a lot of people will, and at some point they’ll have to reckon with Andy Reid not being the kind of dude they wish he was,” wrote Alex Kirshner of Slate and Split Zone Duo.

“To be clear, the Chiefs have trainers, some of them women, who would have to treat this guy. Huge unforced error by the Chiefs,” wrote Patrick Allen, vice president of content at FanSided.

“Remember when teams didn’t want to sign Colin Kaepernick because they didn’t want the distraction? Andy Reid just took five straight minutes of questions for a practice squad kicker who missed more than 25% of his FGs the last time he was in the league,” wrote Rob Guerrera of ESPN Radio.

“Can’t say I was surprised by Andy’s answers about Justin Tucker… but it sure didn’t leave me feeling ANY better about that acquisition. Yikes,” wrote Lexi Osborne of the Kingdom Queens podcast.

“Andy Reid on Jeffrey Dahmer: He’s misunderstood and was just hungry. We try to do our homework the best way we can. Make sure things are OK,” joked Jason Aponte of Niners Nation.

“Selling your soul for a kicker??? A kicker who was bad the last time he played,” wrote Brandon Perna of ThatsGoodSports.

“All I can say about Andy Reid and his love for excusing disgusting behavior is GROSS,” wrote Sara Marshall of Musket Fire.

Clearly, Reid’s answers didn’t do much to quiet the criticism of the Chiefs’ decision.
