Chelsea v Man United player ratings: Lisandro Martinez embarrasses himself and his team-mates with red card

· Yahoo Sports

Chelsea eased to victory against Manchester United after Lisandro Martinez’s red card piled the pressure on Michael Carrick.

Morgan Rogers scored a stunning opening goal after a chaotic first half where United wasted several chances to take the lead at Stamford Bridge.

The forward danced through the United defence and then chipped goalkeeper Senne Lammens before the visitors fell apart.

Martinez was booked twice in two minutes while also conceding a needless penalty for leading with his forearm in a challenge on Wesley Fofana.

Cole Palmer scored the penalty to condemn United to a third consecutive defeat, while they are now nine games without a win in all competitions.

Here are how the players rated at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea

Mike Penders, 7

A much-needed clean sheet after his error in the defeat against Tottenham last week. Produced a stunning save late on to deny Mbuemo’s volley.

Josh Acheampong, 7

Assured in defence and displayed his excellent recovery speed. The 20-year-old continues to impress.

Levi Colwill, 7

Needed to step up in the absence of Maxence Lacroix and largely did – despite the error prone Fofana playing alongside him.

Wesley Fofana, 3

A frightening watch for Chelsea fans on Halloween. Two lapses of concentration presented huge two chances to Amad Diallo, which were wasted.

Marco Palestra, 5

He did fine. Improved as the game went on after a bit of a shaky first half where Diallo enjoyed a lot of space.

Moises Caicedo, 7

Bossed the midfield, as you would expect, although he was upstaged by his midfield partner!

Romeo Lavia, 9

Pivotal to the opening goal, nicking the ball off Mbeumo and beating Baleba to it before releasing Rogers. An impressive performance.

Estevao Willian, 8

A bright spark on his first Premier League start of the season and certainly made an impression. Denied a wonderful third goal by a narrow offside.

Cole Palmer, 7

Produced a few moments of class, although his penalty could have been saved by Senne Lammens. But back to doing what he does best after his red card against Spurs.

Morgan Rogers, 9

Exceptional. His ability to dribble through contact (or avoid it completely against the absent United defence) won Chelsea the game and his goal was brilliantly taken.

Pedro Neto, 6

Shifted into a more unfamiliar position as Chelsea try and work out how to deal with Joao Pedro’s injury. It did not suit the Portuguese.

Manchester United

Senne Lammens, 5

Should have saved Palmer’s penalty and had a few shaky moments, but denied Estevao with a decent diving stop.

Leny Yoro, 3

Disappeared as Rogers waltzed through the United defence. You feel for him as he is being played out of position.

Harry Maguire, 3

Presented a chance to Neto in the first half and then vanished into thin air as Rogers dribbled through to score.

Lisandro Martinez, 1

What can you say? Embarrassed by Rogers before he embarrassed himself with his red card, jumping into Fofana to concede a penalty and get a needless sending off.

Diogo Dalot, 4

Had his hands full with Estevao and was roasted by the Brazilian.

Carlos Baleba, 3

He was bypassed far too easily by the excellent Lavia in the move for Chelsea’s first goal. He was brought to be the enforcer in United’s midfield but they were light again.

Andrey Santos, 4

What does he do exactly? I’m not sure. His attempt to slide in on Rogers while he ran through on goal was ridiculously wayward. Chelsea are laughing.

Amad Diallo, 4

His miss while through on goal arguably changed the game. He is bright but a lack of goals (his last was in December last year) is a problem.

Bruno Fernandes, 5

Restored as captain but could not produce a talismanic display. Blazed over on the volley in the first half and still looks a shadow of last season’s player.

Matheus Cunha, 4

Unlucky, perhaps, to have his first-half opener ruled out for offside. But he is not offering enough threat from United’s left wing.

Bryan Mbeumo, 5

Playing at No 9 is proving a bit of a thankless task. He produced some moments of danger, rattling the bar late on. But United need a striker.
