The Bharatiya Janata Party announced Suvendu Adhikari as the next chief minister of West Bengal. Adhikari was elected the leader of the BJP’s legislature party at a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah earlier in the day.

The new BJP government in West Bengal will take oath at 11 am in Kolkata.

Adhikari served as a Cabinet minister in the TMC government in the state between 2011 and 2020 before defecting to the BJP in December 2020. He was the leader of Opposition in the Assembly between 2021 and 2026. Read more.

The Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) extended unconditional support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to form the government in Tamil Nadu. With this, the party, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has crossed the majority mark of 118. When the results were announced on Monday, the TVK had emerged as the single-largest party in the Assembly election in Tamil Nadu, with 108 seats.
