Florida football is generating largely positive feedback from rival SEC coaches this summer.
Athlon Sports released anonymous evaluations from SEC coaches sounding off on conference opponents entering the 2026 season. New head coach Jon Sumrall has left a substantial impression on his conference colleagues, many of whom feel that Florida could be a legitimate playoff contender ahead of schedule.

A good portion of the comments were directed specifically at Sumrall's changes on the offensive side of the ball, most notably the hiring of new head coordinator Buster Faulkner. One anonymous coach even called Florida's hiring of Faulkner a "home-run move," while another said that the Gators' offense has become "such a departure from what anybody in the SEC does offensively, and they’re gonna have a couple games where they have an advantage because everything is so new schematically.”
Coaches also highlighted transfers quarterback Aaron Philo and wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. as major additions who can propel Florida's offense in 2026. Mentioned frequently was how aggressive Florida has been with NIL spending and recruiting. The program's rapid change under Sumrall was also acknowledged.
