With the contract talks between Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers seemingly not being in a great spot at the moment, some have questioned whether the Cleveland Browns could get back in the mix to land their former quarterback.
Mayfield obviously didn't have the time he hoped for or expected in Cleveland, but things have changed for him and the organization since then. Not to say that the Browns would be interested in bringing him back, and even more so Mayfield not wanting to be back, but anything is possible, as we've seen crazier things happen in the NFL.
While it remains uncertain how everything will go with his contract in Tampa Bay, one Browns reporter put some cold water on the idea of him returning to Cleveland, saying that the Browns probably wouldn't want him.
“I don’t think the Browns would want him back. I think they’ve had enough of the Baker Mayfield experience. That’s why he’s not here. …
“I get it, he wants his market value and the pay scale for quarterbacks is what the pay scale for quarterback is. But I just don’t think that the Browns enjoyed their first Baker Mayfield experience, and I don’t know that they want to go that path again. It was not enjoyable for a lot of folks that tried to help him out while he was here. They tried to help him mature. So, these are the facts,” Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan said.
Just as the Browns don't want Mayfield, there's an even better chance that he doesn't want Cleveland. I'd be shocked if something happened, but Cleveland would finally be getting a quarterback it desperately needs.
