The Chicago White Sox currently own one of the Wild Card spots in the American League, and it's been an incredible season for the suddenly ascending White Sox squad.

But, there are still some questions over whether the White Sox will be buyers or sellers, or simply stand pat at the trade deadline. For the White Sox, this big question might come down to the brutal stretch of games they've already begun.

ESPN's Bradford Doolittle highlighted the current test the White Sox are taking, a four-series stretch against some of the best teams in baseball, as the deciding factor for this team's trade deadline plans.

White Sox have huge test amid brutal schedule with trade deadline implications

"This might be the roughest stretch in terms of consecutive games against elite competition any team will face this season," Doolittle writes. "If the White Sox are still at or near. 500, and still in or near playoff position when the dust settles, Chris Getz can rejoice, regroup, and then go about plugging holes in what has been baseball's worst pitching staff in high-leverage situations."

The stretch of games that Doolittle is referring to is the one the White Sox have already started. It began with a road series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

They lost that series 2-1, but after one of the most incredible MLB debuts ever, with a walk-off homer from Braden Montgomery, the White Sox took the first game of the series against the Atlanta Braves.

Chicago went up against the Phillies, is in the middle of their series against the Braves, and afterwards will welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers to Chicago before traveling East to face the New York Yankees.

They're going to have to withstand this brutal stretch without their best hitter, Munetaka Murakami, and hopefully Colson and Braden Montgomery will continue to perform well, alongside Miguel Vargas and their other hitters.

After that brutal stretch, the White Sox will then face the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians, before ending the month with the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles.

If they can hang on through this Phillies-Braves-Dodgers-Yankees stretch, and prove they can hang with some of the top competition in MLB, then a trade deadline addition or two could be in the cards for the White Sox.

This next week or so of games for the White Sox is going to be imperative for the future of the franchise, as if they can weather the storm, a fun trade deadline could be on their horizon.
