Browns CB named breakout candidate in first full season with team

The Cleveland Browns acquired cornerback Tyson Campbell from the Jacksonville Jaguars a year ago, swapping out former first round pick Greg Newsome II for him. And the return they got on not only his play on the field, but his cost-controlled contract, has been a success story for general manager Andrew Berry.

Entering his first full season with the Browns now, they will need him to level up his play even more after the departure of Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. And he has believers from the national audience. ESPN's Benjamin Solak has named Campbell as the Browns' breakout candidate for the 2026 season.
Here is what Solak had to say on Denzel Ward's partner in crime:
"Campbell looked more at home in Cleveland, where he was kept closer to the line of scrimmage and given a simpler menu of coverages. He can still get picked on at times, especially when isolated on vertical routes. But as a No. 2 to Denzel Ward, he has a high ceiling given the play we've seen from him in the past. For the Browns' defense to retain its elite status without Myles Garrett, it needs this cornerback duo to be among the league's best."
Under new defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg, the responsibility will be heavy on the secondary. Luckily for the Browns, they have veterans filling every spot on the back end. Cleveland will need consistent and solid play from Campbell, something they were unable to get out of Newsome.
