UTEP is coming off an 11-20 campaign that included a 7-13 mark in Conference USA play. The Miners are moving to the Mountain West for the 2026-27 academic year having won at least 18 games in three of the last five seasons.

“We’re so excited to participate in the Opening Day Marathon against a really good Northern Kentucky team,” UTEP head coach Joe Golding said, according to a press release from Sanford Sports. “We appreciate all that Field of 68 and Sanford Sports do for college basketball. We look forward to putting our program on their platform, and it’s a really great way to start the season.”

Northern Kentucky has been one of the most consistent teams in the Horizon League over the last seven seasons. The Norse have been over .500 in five of those seven years, including a 20-14 record in 2025-26.

“We can’t wait to compete in the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls,” Northern Kentucky head coach Darrin Horn said, per the release. “We’ll see everyone there in November.”

This will be the first meeting between UTEP and Northern Kentucky, and each program's first trip to the Pentagon.
