Chase and the Bengals did not have to wait long to have their first controversy of the season, as their skirmish during training camp has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
But it appears the star WR was instigating the defensive unit just two plays before the brawl between the two sides broke out.

While the skirmish between Ja’Marr Chase and the Bengals’ offensive unit against the defensive unit caught headlines, the situation was actually instigated by the WR.
Two plays prior, Joe Burrow threw a pass for Chase, who was tackled subsequently by DJ Tanner into the bench area where the defensive unit was sitting.
After the play, Chase had a strong message for Tanner and the rest of the defensive unit:
“You better show some f—— respect.”
Just two plays later, things devolved into a brawl, as Chase and the offensive unit took umbrage with the defensive unit.
Chase even grabbed Tanner’s helmet and tossed it while continuing to pour gasoline on what was a raging fire at the time.
Ja’Marr Chase has set the tone for Cincinnati Bengals on first day of training camp
So far, reports have suggested that the altercation has not had any far-reaching ramifications for the Bengals roster.
If the issues were left on the training ground and not taken back to the locker room, this incident could help galvanise the Bengals going forward.
Chase has inadvertently set the tone for the Bengals and reminded them of the mentality they must carry into the new season after consecutive years of disappointing performances.
With the AFC now more competitive than ever, with the re-emergent New England Patriots and the return of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bengals must be in top form heading into the new season.
