CHICAGO – These are interesting times, with some unexpected twists bound to happen before Monday’s MLB trade deadline.

Here at Wrigley Field, the lineup wrinkle is that Spencer Jones is getting a second straight start against a lefty starter, after belting a homer off Shota Imanaga in Friday’s win.

“He’s done a nice job. I feel like he’s getting better, from spring training to now,’’ manager Aaron Boone said of the lefty-hitting rookie slugger.

Jones will play center field in Saturday’s start against Cubs lefty David Peterson. The Yanks counter with Max Fried, in his third start back from the IL (elbow).

Ben Rice is being rested from the lineup by Boone, who was “trying to find a day at some point’’ to give the lefty-hitting first baseman/DH a break.

“Just felt like today was probably the best day to get him one,’’ said Boone, who also rested Trent Grisham. Jazz Chisholm (leg cramps) is back in, after a one-day break.

Jones is also a potential trade chip in an impact deal. Earlier Saturday, the Yanks sent erratic reliever to the Pittsburgh Pirates for two prospects.

Righty reliever Yovanny Cruz was called up from Triple-A and expected to be ready to pitch, if needed, Saturday at Wrigley Field.
