Chendall Weaver granted extra year, but won't rejoin Longhorns Hoops

After three seasons in Austin, Chendall Weaver's time as a Longhorn is coming to an end. On Friday, Weaver was granted an extra year of eligibility, but that won't come with Texas. Head coach Sean Miller has no scholarships available to bring the veteran guard back. While it is an unfortunate end to Weaver's tenure, he leaves behind a memorable legacy.

In 93 games in the burnt orange, Weaver scored 567 points while adding 361 rebounds to his resume. During the 2025-2026 campaign, the Mansfield Timberview High alum set career highs in multiple categories, including assists with 41 and steals with 28. That is partly why he saw an increase in playing time.

His play did not go unnoticed as Miller reflected on Weaver's time in the program when asked if there was room on the roster for him to return last week.

" They poured their heart out, went through a coaching change, and both Chendall Weaver and Jordan Pope, and ditto for Tramon Mark," Miller told Inside Texas reporter Evan Vieth. " I look at those three guys as when we talk about creating momentum for the future. All three of those Texas guys had a lot to do with creating that momentum for us moving forward. I'm forever grateful. I think we all are. They're always welcome back.”

Due to his track record, Weaver should draw plenty of interest for teams in need of a veteran guard. He has shown that he can make an impact when given the opportunity and held his own in the SEC. Regardless of where Weaver goes, many in Austin will be keeping an eye on what his next chapter holds.

For Weaver the focus will now be on finding a program that can maximize his skills as he looks to finish his college career with a national title.
