Carlos Prates is backing his former foe at UFC 330.
Islam Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) makes his first welterweight title defense against Ian Machado Garry (17-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) in the Aug. 15 main event at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia (Paramount+).

Prates (24-7 MMA, 7-1 UFC), who expects to be next in line for a title shot, sees big underdog Machado Garry pulling off the upset.
"UFC 330, Ian Garry is going to beat Makhachev by decision," Prates told the UFC. "I don't know if unanimous decision or split decision, but it's going to be a decision."
Prates' lone octagon loss came in a decision against Machado Garry in the UFC on ESPN 66 headliner in April 2025. He has since rebounded with three-straight bonus-winning finishes of Geoff Neal, and former champions Leon Edwards and Jack Della Maddalena. Makhachev has acknowledged Prates as a worthy title contender after he fights Machado Garry.
