The Renegades ripped a page out of last night’s story, continuing their early offensive attack with a three-run first inning against Matt Duffy. Duffy saw only eight batters, walked in a run, and gave up two more on a single before handing the ball to Griffin Kilander. He limited the damage to those few runs for the next 3.1 innings.
A two-run single for Ronny Hernandez got the Drive within one in the second. He returned to the plate in the fourth to tie it up with another base hit, 3-3.
Luis Cohen entered the game in the fifth for his first appearance since May 16 for Greenville, keeping it tied. The Drive took their first lead since Thursday night after four consecutive walks forced in Gerardo Rodriguez to make it 4-3, marking Carlos Gutierrez’s first RBI since his debut earlier in the series.
Enmanuel Tejeda cut the lead short, tying it at four apiece on an error in the sixth. However, a bases-loaded single by Owen Hull gave that run right back, and a well-fought, nine-pitch at-bat by Luke Heyman helped cap a three-run frame for the Drive with a two-run double, making it 7-4.
Calvin Bickerstaff took over for Cohen in the sixth and returned in the seventh, giving up a leadoff, first-pitch homer to David McCann, dropping it to a two-run advantage for Greenville.
Those two runs disappeared as they found themselves as equals once again in the eighth, forcing Trennor O’Donnell to piggyback Bickerstaff to end the frame.
Hudson Valley then regained a lead with a two-run ninth, taking advantage of an error and scoring off a Maika Niu single, 9-7.
Just when the game could not get any wilder, it did. The Drive sent game six to extras on an RBI from Justin Gonzales and off the speed of Owen Hull, beating out a throwing error, making it 9-9.
No score in the 10th brought us to the 11th still tied at nine, where Tejeda sent out a two-run homer for the Renegades, 11-9. The Drive responded well once again, courtesy of Antonio Anderson, answering with one of his own to tie the game at 11 apiece.
The epic cycle saw its end in the 12th. Two-run homers from Niu and McCann gave Hudson Valley a 15-11 lead. An RBI single from Heyman wasn’t enough, ultimately leading to a 15-12 loss for the Drive.
Greenville finished with 14 hits, going 9-for-27 in RISP and leaving 17 runners on base for the second time in this series. Hernandez led with four hits, and he and Heyman each had three RBIs. Heyman also had a run scored and three walks.
Hudson Valley got 16 hits today, going 6-for-23 with runners in scoring position and leaving 12 stranded. McCann anchored with four hits, five RBIs, two homers, and three runs scored. Diomedes Hernandez came later in the game as the new leadoff hitter for the Renegades, going 3-for-6 with a run scored. Also leaving with three hits is Tejeda, along with three runs, a homer, and a pair of RBIs. Niu finished with two hits, two runs, and four RBIs.
O’Donnell shouldered the loss, surrendering eight runs on six hits. He also gave up three homers and walked two in four innings, his first loss of the season. Hansel Rincon earned his second win, allowing three runs on one hit, but just one was earned in his 2.1 innings of work.
The Greenville Drive heads out on a six-game road trip for an in-state rivalry clash against the Hub City Spartanburgers, starting on Tuesday with first pitch at 6:35 PM.
