People still argue about Scottie Pippen's legacy more than almost anyone else in basketball history. He won six titles and made seven All-Star teams while playing next to Michael Jordan. Yet despite that Hall of Fame resume, critics always try to downplay his success, arguing those rings belong to Jordan's era instead of Pippen's leadership.

Parody account @TheNBACentel on X recently grabbed the tension behind the narrative by posting a clip from Pippen's recent appearance on the PBD Podcast with a fake quote captioned over the video.

It read, "I have 6 rings. I won without MJ. I’m not no KD or LeBron. I didn’t have to jump from team to team chasing championships - Scottie Pippen."

And the post surpassed 4.3 million views in less than 24 hours, though Pippen never said any of that. However, the host actually asked whether Pippen would put himself ahead of LeBron James.

The six-time NBA champion simply said, "My success as a team is more successful than LeBron. I got six rings."

When pressed on whether an NBA owner would pick him over James as a franchise cornerstone, Pippen paused and said, "I don't know. Cause I didn't chase mine."

Plus, the actual conversation made no mention of Kevin Durant. However, the fake caption was clearly designed to upset fans of both LeBron James and Durant. Those who didn’t bother to double-check the actual footage before attacking Pippen got fooled and quickly took issue with the comments.

One fan fired back, penning, "Bro Scotty Pimpin you were only there for defense you ain't shit... You're just met for defense and you're not better than LeBron."

Another added, "What championship did he win without MJ?"

A third fan penned, "Where did he win without MJ? I don't remember that."

The fourth one claimed, "I love Scottie, he doesn't get as much credit for those championships as he deserves, but no GM is picking him over LeBron."

A random X user remarked, "The thing was, Pip could never evolve beyond his sidekick status."

Seems like the account successfully did its job. The real Pippen shared a measured, debatable opinion, but the fake version gave the internet every single reason to lose its mind.

It blew up because it touched on the endless debate over how folks measure basketball greatness. Pippen is in elite company with a perfect 6-0 record in the NBA Finals as the ultimate defensive anchor next to Jordan.

Meanwhile, James is the all-time leading scorer in NBA history with four rings across three different franchises. To chase his fifth ring, he has already moved to the Philadelphia 76ers, joining a contending roster that includes Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, and Tyrese Maxey.
