Cagliari forward Yael Trepy has left the intensive care unit of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari following a swimming accident, the Serie A club said in a statement on Friday.

Cagliari said that Trepy, 20, is now being treated in the respiratory ward of the hospital on the island of Sardinia and that his recovery is progressing well.

Trepy suffered an accident in a swimming pool of a villa on the Costa Smeralda last weekend.

The ANSA news agency said that the player can't swim and drifted into the deeper part of the pool. He was reportedly unconscious when pulled from the water and taken to the hospital by helicopter.

He was placed in an induced coma, from which he awoke a few days ago. On Thursday, Cagliari posted a photo of Trepy on social media showing him at the hospital, where he appears to be conscious and smiling.

Trepy made his debut for Cagliari's professional team in January. Last Friday, he was in the starting line-up for the Coppa Italia first-round match against Arezzo, which his side won 1-0.
