Sid Seixeiro urges Canadiens to ‘go all in’ on Sidney Crosby trade

Sid Seixeiro thinks the Montreal Canadiens should take a major swing for Sidney Crosby. The veteran NHL star could give Montreal another elite center as its young core enters a new stage.

Speaking on The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro, Seixeiro argued that Crosby remains good enough to justify the risk. He thinks Montreal has enough assets to address other roster needs while pursuing the Pittsburgh Penguins captain.

“I believe not only if you pulled a Crosby trade with Dubas, the gap is so wide in terms of how Kent Hughes operates and Kyle Dubas, those other three holes in the hull of your ship that you were talking about, you could fill,” Seixeiro said. “I think in the East, never mind how much fun it would be, Montreal, in my mind [in the snap of a finger] is the best team in the Eastern Conference.”

Seixeiro added that the move would carry obvious risks but still deserves serious consideration.

“Is there a risk? Better believe there’s a risk,” Seixeiro said. “There’s a risk in anything we do. I think this is worth the risk. This isn’t Crosby four years from now where he’s slipping. Crosby’s still an elite player in the league. I would love [it].”

Tony Marinaro offered a different view, stressing the value of keeping young centers under team control. He questioned whether Montreal should surrender a player who could anchor the lineup for a decade.

“I just don’t like giving up a top two-line centerman who will come in on an entry-level contract,” Marinaro said, referring to Michael Hage.

Seixeiro sees Crosby as the type of addition that could push Montreal from a rising playoff team toward genuine Stanley Cup contention. The Canadiens reached the Eastern Conference Final last season after winning 48 games and collecting 106 points.

Montreal already has a strong young core led by Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Ivan Demidov. Suzuki produced 101 points, while Caufield scored 51 goals during the regular season.

The Canadiens still need more shot creation and scoring depth behind their leading forwards. Adding Crosby would immediately strengthen the middle of the lineup while giving Montreal another proven playoff performer.

The challenge remains the price. Pittsburgh would likely demand premium young talent and significant draft capital for Crosby, even with his contract situation approaching a decision point.

Seixeiro thinks that should not stop Kent Hughes. “Kent Hughes has all the chips, World Series of Poker,” he said. “Boom. Who else but Crosby to go all in like that?”
