This one has been in the works for a while — Mikey Moore’s loan to FC Köln in the Bundesliga has now been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano (sigh).

Once again, this is a straight “dry” loan with no purchase option or obligation. He’s heading to Germany for a season and then coming right back, which represents Tottenham’s belief in his potential. This loan had been in place for a while and was first reported a couple of weeks ago, but the club put it on hold as they were still working to bring in Savio and Omar Marmoush; had either of those deals fallen through, it’s possible Mikey might have stayed at Tottenham this season.
As it is, this is an excellent loan. The Scottish Premier League was a crucible for Mikey last season — he grew a ton at Rangers, but there’s only so much Scottish football can do for a player with Premier League ambitions. A move to a decent German side is an excellent move — he’ll play against a mix of extremely good teams (i.e. Bayern, Bayer Leverkusen, Dortmund) and some not-so-good teams as well, which will give him a challenge. Hopefully he’ll continue to improve even more to the extent that we can seriously consider giving him a first team role at Spurs next season. Plus he gets to live in Cologne, and who doesn’t want to live there? Seriously, I’d love to live in Cologne.
Good luck, Mikey!
