The Cleveland Guardians went into the 2026 MLB trade deadline with a clear need for more offensive firepower. They sorely lacked power bats and needed some more help.
Cleveland did wind up adding a pair of sluggers, one of which being infielder Nathaniel Lowe and the other was outfielder Jo Adell from the Los Angeles Angels.
As CBS Sports' Dayn Perry points out, the trade with the Angels for Adell has been a resounding success so far thanks to one thing: Adell's power being added to this lineup.

"The Guardians rank 29th in MLB in home runs, so they targeted Adell to give them some sorely needed pop in the lineup," Perry writes. "While he hasn't set the world ablaze with Cleveland, Adell has indeed given the Guards an injection of thump."
This praise for the Guardians' move for Adell came amid Perry calling this one of the trade deadline "success" stories. Considering his impact on the Guardians, that's hardly a surprise.
In 111 games with the Angels, Adell posted -0.2 bWAR with 16 doubles, 16 homers, a .239 batting average, and a .682 OPS.
In just 26 games with the Guardians since the trade, he's posted 0.8 bWAR with seven doubles, four homers, 21 RBIs, a .250 batting average, and a .784 OPS.

Adell hasn't been the best player in baseball since the trade or anything, but he's been a massive upgrade that this club has desperately needed. He's showing his 37-homer season from a year ago wasn't a fluke now that he's with the Guardians.
Jose Ramirez hasn't been living up to his potential this season after returning from a hamate bone injury earlier this year, and the majority of the hitters are underwhelming for Cleveland.
But with Adell's power added to this lineup, the Guardians have been in a much better spot offensively and look to have a much better chance of securing a postseason spot in a tight competition for the third AL Wild Card spot.
