Braunschweig fan dies after emergency incident at stadium

An Eintracht Braunschweig fan died after he needed emergency care in the stadium ahead of the German second-division match against Dynamo Dresden on Saturday.

The kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes due to the incident. The area where the fan was receiving treatment was cordoned off with large white tarpaulins and the stadium's announcer informed the public that a person was fighting for their life.

The fan was taken to hospital, but it was announced during half-time that he had died on the way there.

"Despite immediate measures being taken, the fan unfortunately died on the way to the hospital," Braunschweig said on X. "Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones. In moments like these, football takes a back seat."

At the family's request, the game continued with the fans cheering on the team and ended 2-2.
