McNaney, Denver Outlaws fall short of PLL Championship

For the 2nd-straight year, Corning's Logan McNaney and the Denver Outlaws were bested in the Premier Lacrosse League Championship game. After last season's 14-13 heartbreaker against the New York Atlas, Denver suffered a 14-4 defeat at the hands the top-ranked Philadelphia Waterdogs.
McNaney stopped 11 shots in Sunday's title game loss, as former Cornell standout and league MVP CJ Kirst netted a game-high 5 goals, in his 2nd season with the Waterdogs. Fellow Big Red alum Brendan Staub was 1 of 4 others to score once, while Mikey Sowers and Zach Currier tacked on 2 each. Denver's effort was paced by goals from Brennan O'Neill,
Dalton Young, Luke Wierman, and Jared Bernhardt.
Despite the loss, McNaney continues to build an outstanding resume in the sport. Last year's PLL Goaltender of the Year helped the Outlaws flip a slow start to the season, rallying to their 2nd-straight Western Conference title, while finishing with a (7-7) record. Sunday's final also marks the Corning native's 6th NCAA or PLL Championship game appearance since 2021.
McNaney guided the University of Maryland to 4 National Championship games (2021-22, 2024-25), winning with MVP honors in 2022. Now as a pro, the former All-American has helped Denver to back-to-back finals, but the ultimate championship goal remains yet to be won.
