AFC North: Steelers trade away cornerback the night before Browns TNF matchup

· Yahoo Sports

Normally, most AFC North drama revolves around the Cleveland Browns and, sometimes, the Cincinnati Bengals. This offseason and heading into the regular season, contract drama seemed likely for the Pittsburgh Steelers with CB Joey Porter Jr. and possible for the Baltimore Ravens with QB Lamar Jackson. The Steelers and Ravens have been the standard bearers in the AFC North for a long time; drama hasn’t always followed them.

For Pittsburgh, Week 4’s matchup with the Cleveland Browns is for the division lead, but they had already ruled Porter out for the game because his back became a problem in Wednesday’s practice.

The back wasn’t bad enough to stop the Steelers from dealing away their problem corner on Wednesday night, sending Porter to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a future second-round pick:

This is the third trade between the two teams where the Cowboys received a player the Steelers had selected high in previous NFL drafts. WR George Pickens and OT Broderick Jones were also acquired by Dallas.

An interesting note for the Cowboys is that both Porter and Pickens are due for new contracts and are represented by agent David Mulugheta. Not only is Mulugheta responsible for the Browns contract with QB Deshaun Watson, but owner Jerry Jones’ standoff with the agent last year led to DE/LB Micah Parsons being traded away from Dallas.

Porter was already ruled out for Thursday Night Football, and now he is off the team. Two other Steelers cornerbacks, Jalen Ramsey and Brandin Echols, are questionable for tonight’s game.

What do you think of this Porter deal for the Steelers: Did they get enough or not enough, especially since the 2nd rounder ins’t until 2028?
